In Loving Memory of Legendary, Homebound & Beautiful Angel: Dr. Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou/Marguerite Ann Johnson

(April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014)

My heart skipped a beat when I first learned of her departure. She has been so inspirational to me. As a single teen mom growing up and experiencing things I never would have imagined, her motivation, intelligence, and divine courage wrapped up in the love for God and humanity is what kept me sane.

She was and is an epitome of motherhood, unity, and for me a messenger on life ~Living In Faith Everyday.

Reading was an escape for me coming up and still is today, and her books were pages that I absorbed in essence of struggle overcome with DIVINE STRENGTH, CHARACTER, COURAGE & LOVE, all via an ethereal transcendent nurturing.

I write publicly today because one of the life’s lesson she spoke once wasWrite it so that people can hear it and it slides through the brain and goes straight to the heart(Angelou, M., American Poet, b.1928).

Dr. Angelou had panache for the “Tongue” in the sense of linguistics, language, culture, and unity. In a world where racism was born and still is present today, she embodied freedom in a literary song of an extrapolating melody. It sang of change, newness, oneness and mostly that of spiritual liberty.

http://funlava.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/maya-angelou-1024×576.jpg

“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God”

(Ephesians 5:19-21 KJV).

When you read her dialogue, automatically it captivated you, and whisked you off to the era of experience whereby you FELT the pain, joy, sadness and BURN via perseverance and vigor.

I salute her departure with love because, no longer does the song of freedom lie in this Ladybird’s belly, for freedom has taken her to the promised land where she has been journeying towards for eight and half decades. That says a lot! You know there is a promised seventy years for us if we would but live right, but you just know you must have done some pretty amazing things and exuded a far greater love to have an extra sixteen or more.

“The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away”

(Psalm 90:10 KJV).

This woman as a child began her tests of faith, with abuse, neglect, prejudices, bias and self-esteem issues. Nevertheless, she had the stanching approach of a lion’s courage to deter or cauterised her own bleeding heart via her writings. She doddled around this universe as if she knew what lie ahead…traveling to other countries and embracing multiple cultures and languages like it was her second skin. That fascinated me.

“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass”

(Psalm 37:4-5 KJV).

She started out doing music, playwriting, acting, song and dance, but her gift that would make plenteous more room for her came as her life’s canvas of penmanship and voila “Woman became Phenomenal, Freedom had a different chime and love’s escape was through rhythm and rhyme.”

I am blessed that I took a sabbatical of reading a couple of months ago to get in some more reading of her last book Mom, Me,and Mom and even re-checked “Letter To My Daughter”. The only book of hers that I currently own or still have in my possession is the “Heart of A Woman”.

On March 4, 2014 One of my Brand New Mercies Post reads:

3rd Month Day 3 & 4 Brand New Mercies Day 3 I finished my last piece of Letter to My Daughter and just as thought it was worth it (saving the best for last)…she quoted her grandmother saying “she didn’t know quite how to find the things they needed but how she would just step out on the word of God” (Para, Angelou, M., 2008 |Excerpt from Maya Angelou LETTER TO MY DAUGHTER. p.166).

Funny though how in prayer I stated the same thing recently and GOD delivers! Thinking on the poem “Surviving” from Chapter 23, pp.135-137 and the stanza which talks about true love, friends, family, and heartbreak, are just one of many tests of faith and fights in which love is undying as we so commandeer the vitality of our youthfulness (Para, Angelou, 2008).

[“Each time my search for true love leads me to the gates of hell where Satan waits with open arms I imagine the laughter of women friends, their souls tinkle like wind charms urged by a searching breeze I remember the sturdy guffaw of happy men and my feet, without haste, and with purpose move past the threatening open gates to an area, secure from the evil of heartbreak. [sic] The emotional sway of events and the impermanence of construction echo the ways of dying love. I have found that platonic affection in friendships, the familial love for children can be relied upon with certainty to lift the bruised soul, and repair the wounded spirit and I am finished with erotic romance. Until….”] (Maya Angelou, American Poet b1928).

Day 3 (later that evening) I ran across a blessing heaven-sent, good & perfect, and I too was stepping out on the solemn word of God. Day 4 Confirmation of yesterday: “God does not tempt you but he will test your faith”…. HE never fails, sometimes, scratch that ALWAYS, we have to be bold enough when being tried in the fire (tests of faith) to walk circumspectly as RECEIVERS (in expectation ~ speaking, trusting and knowing “HE GOT YOU”). Our Father is a WEALTHY King and as heirs, we have access to the kingdom and all within it. Speak those things, as not as though they were is all I am saying. HIGH-STEP in an all-encompassing prosperity. HE takes care of all (every one) of our needs! I am walking in the realm of prosperity and GOD is providing! I am so thankful for true LOVE (GOD)! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!]

Who knew nearly three months after this literary sabbatical, I would be saying farewell, in my own words.

My vigil and tributary send off to an Angel by whom I remain touched.

I once had a small collection of her writings but they were lost in a fire. Thank God for Libraries though, because books are expensive and with good reason. They are the transference in soul essence of the writer where experience and emotions are. In Jr, High School, I began to search through black history and her book “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, just happened to be one of the first black authored books I read, along with literature from Langston Hughes, W.E.B. Dubois and other books on black inventors. They were not teaching the truth about black history then and I wondered, “Why are these things in the library but aren’t taught in class”.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”

(2 Timothy 2:15 KJV).

It was at that moment when vicarious travel through time took flight in my life and my love for reading, writing, drawing, singing, and dancing became my nemesis to the abuse I was suffering. Dr. Angelou’s journey to numerous countries and marrying into different cultures was astonishing for a little girl (me) who so wanted to travel to distant shores. She embodied a phoenix, a butterfly and a lion to me. She always arose from whatever adversity she faced and if someone tried to cocoon her [box her in] she transformed into something newer, and she was fierce in zeal, devotion, and had a courage of “CAN DO” and equated all things to her belief and love for God.

I could go on and on about Madame Maya Angelou, but I will stop here. Thanks for sharing my memory of her life and its effect on mine.

May we always remember the effective heart and affective spirit of this “Phenomenal Woman”…I know I will.

On Pastors or Church Leaders WHO TRY TOO HARD TO MAKE THE CUT….or Not

Have you encountered Pastors or Church Leaders who put more emphasis on prosperity in a monetary sense (for themselves) of gain? The WORD declares this as filthy lucre, Mammon, greed, vainglory and so on…

I want to touch on this subject using His Holy Word as a help:

When the people of God attend Church, the message they come to hear is to be an inerrant and inspiring Word from the LORD GOD, who is in fact LOVE. Love as the Holy Word declares does not hurt its neighbors (congregation/members).

“For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the Lord: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered. Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the North Country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons. O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps”

(Jeremiah 10:21-23 KJV).

[Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbed up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter opened; and the sheep hear his voice: and he called his own sheep by name, and leaded them out. And when he puts forth his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spoke Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spoke unto them. Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.  I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture

(John 10:1-9 KJV).

“And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness” (Ezekiel 33:31 KJV)

  • While we all, who are believers, know the importance of tithes, offering, & appearance when attending church (building); is it relevant or not to require W-2 forms, paid parking, have more than two offerings during service, or the like?
  • Furthermore, is it usury to tell visitors or members that they are welcome to come as they are but then ostracize them for doing so? (Matthew 18:6, Romans 14:13-23).
  • Do not get me wrong but once we receive baptism, saved, and/or converted, is it not a process of sanctification by faith, good stewardship, or participation that has to transpire?

Now I am going to give an inspiration, not from a biblical scholar perspective but from a spiritual discerning about Romans 14:13-23 KJV.

In the biblical canon, it speaks about those who think it wrong to consume meat. Here is where I am headed — keeping 2 Tim 3:16, in mind. The Holy Word declares that the “kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost” (v.17). It also declares that man should not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4, Deuteronomy 8:3-5).

Now the bread or manna of our spiritual nourishment is the WORD of GOD, and our drink would be ‘all athirst’ of the “LIVING WATER of LIFE, JESUS” (KJV). That being said, keeping in mind a healthy diet, the HOLY WORD declares it an overall wish for all HIS BELOVED to be HEALTHY (3 John 1:2).

We all know full well that our natural diets are not always as healthy as we would like, (i.e. burgers, pizza, alcohol, cigarettes, exercise, extracurricular activities, etc).

It is similar to our spiritual development in that a task of abstinence and/or modification has to take place. The Lord is saying when we seek to judge others unfairly lacking empathy, trying to condemn that which we have no authority to condemn; we set up stones of stumbling. Allow me an example in reiteration…

Example:

A female or male whose soul has been exercising in sin via whatever that is no longer fulfilling towards kingdom living decides to give their spirit a new regimen (enhanced diet). Athirst and hungry for manna & living water, He or she goes to a church to give their life to God, or accept HIS charge in their lives. The pastor, church leaders, and congregation welcome him or her in (or so it would seem).

  1. He or she comes regularly for a while but fall off their diet. Something not aligning with the scriptures was taken out of context (or not). Such as a leader who preaches condemnation for the lost rather than salvation, who berates unthinkingly and jokingly about one’s lifestyle (sinful habits) [as if he or she has never had or do they have] any sinful ways of their own (self-righteousness). He or she is not teaching with love. Ergo causes ill will towards his or her neighbor, who inwardly may be viewing this person (leader) to be a bit hypocritical. I have witnessed this many times. Leaders who brag and boast about how their lives are so far greater and about the riches they have like nice luxuries, expenses, homes, autos, etc. and then say “it’s offering time” and “don’t be caught robbing GOD” or fortune-telling via vain prophetic notions about them seeing “someone who has more to give” [i.e. begging bags]. That male or female who may have been on their last rope or last dime then after have given what was on their hearts to give freely and cheerfully, then give opposite that or not at all, cursing their very blessing unto the Lord. STOP THAT!
  2. Not knowing what to think of this “den of thieves” behavior, he or she then begins to skip a few workouts (services). They come to service and if more than the one or two offerings they had prepared in their hearts to give seems not enough…During the next offering before the prophetic start prophesying about what other monies God is telling them to give as if looking into their purses or wallets. He or she may do a two fingers up, excusing gesture, and make their way to the nearest exit (Matthew 21:13 & Luke 19:46).
  3. I am speaking of the ones who gave all they could with enough to do what God intended on them to in the first place: Tithe their first tenth, give freely from their hearts, & enjoy the fruits of their labor. (Deuteronomy 26, Proverbs 5:10, Ps 128:2, Eccl. 2:24 & 3:13).
  4. On the other hand, he or she may plan to leave just after the first offerings (tithes & benevolence) and miss the intended seeds of faith by the hearing of the WORD.
  5. For some leaders it is just milquetoast. They give the flock a non-edifying segment of scripture, unlike the true under shepherd who tends to every sheep, especially the lost (Luke 15:3-7, Prov. 19).
  6. In their [the trainees ~dieting sheep] haste to stay the course of the diet, they began to cheat on their meal plan, do not study the WORD daily anymore, not even at home. Soon they lose focus and just quit it altogether becoming once again, fallen off their spiritual diet [the lost], and back eating burgers, pizza, etc. (Eph. 4:14).

Okay perhaps that was too extensive an example but hopefully it shed light on how easily one can fall off of their spiritual diet and it is not always that type situation. Sometimes leaders are so abrasive in their delivery of the WORD that it does more harm than good. What I’m getting at is that there has to be a presence of both LOVE and EMPATHY when in authority to guide others. (Romans 12:3)

If that leader after one has gone astray from their spiritual diet, does not visit or call to check on the lost, it may not be questionable to consider what authority he or she is leading. I say this with love because if under the authority of the GOOD SHEPHERD, an under shepherd must also go after that one. (Luke 15 KJV).

MAY WE ALL REMEMBER TO WALK IN LOVE & TO GREET ONE ANOTHER with AN HOLY KISS… Entering in at the straight gate via CHRIST JESUS

NEWIMAGEQUOTES2014FORbothIEPM_STCTSGLOVE IS MAGNIFICENT2 NEWIMAGEQUOTES2014FORbothIEPM_STCTSGLOVE IS MAGNIFICENT

“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:”

(Ephesians 2:14–16 KJV).

“Thou shalt also consider in thine heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so the Lord thy God chastens thee”

(Deuteronomy 8:5 KJV).

“Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another”

(Romans 14:19 KJV).

Surely, the leaders weren’t always well-off, living as Godly as they proclaim. The Holy Word itself declares, “If anyone says they are without sin, he is a liar” (1 John 1:8); and that there are none righteous, except that our righteousness is of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:10 & 12:3, Matthew 5:17-20 Jeremiah 23:6 & Isa 54:17).

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us

(1 John 1:8 KJV).

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

(Romans 3:10 KJV).

Part 1: Are you Still In’ or Stealin’ the Presence of God?

Posted on Updated on

“Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me?saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? Hath not my hand-made all these things?”

(The Acts 7:49-50 KJV).

Just a thought to place up the soundness of mind in our getting “Understanding

A throne usually signifies a royal seat as to suggest a KING SITS HERE. A footstool most often relates to a place ‘where the foot rests’. Also a very synonymous clue that whatever the foot rests upon is beneath, not in a lowly sense but under an authority or hint KING’s rule. What better rule would one want to follow than the creator, who is in, loves, and knows all, about us?

While reading over the WORD in Acts, there is a mention of people being “stiff-necked, with uncircumcised hearts and ears, who resist the Holy Ghost” (7:51).

What does this mean FATHER?

Simply, it is having stubborn disposition, a hardened heart and a deaf ear to instruction.

When we are stubborn we try to take matters into our own hands, thinking we have somewhat control over the outcome of our written lives. We shun at advice and disallow Love to flow from our hearts and into our minds, which helps to govern our behaviors.

Who is stiff-necked?

Simply, we are as were the Jews and the Israelites (Acts 7:51 |Ex 32-33 |Jer 19:10).

  • Hardheaded
  • Stubborn
  • Disobedient
  • Defiant
  • Callous
  • Selfish
  • Prideful
  • Complacency

… and this list could go on. God’s voice of reason instructs us on how to live a peaceful life united in Love for one another. So many people throughout time until now, oppose these inspirations due to lack of and refusal to adhere understanding to their lives via faith. They make themselves to be lesser gods, like “golden calves” believing themselves to harness absolute control or having the solemn ability to free themselves from the KING’s rules by their own admissions, behaviors, and forethought (Exodus 32:4-6 KJV).

Wow…but isn’t that what we are supposed to do?

Well this gets complicated for some and misconstrued by others. While we have the gift of power to think, behave, and comprehend; that power was gifted to us; to do, that it does not cause harm to others, that it edifies the mercy of the creator (KING/Authority).

When we make ourselves SOLE POWER instead of working SOUL POWER we are STEALING Authority. When we work via His righteousness gifted to us by Jesus Christ, we are being STILL in SOUL POWER (Isa 46:10 KJV).

Example:

Are you getting the central idea?

People take their gifts and make themselves gods by taking the glory away from the creator. We can’t keep doing this. GOD governs all, HE created it

Isaiah 45, 46:9 | Mark 10:18 | Psalm 83:18, 86:10 | Leviticus 26 |Job 38 | Deuteronomy 32

The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth”

(Psalm 110:1-3 KJV).

“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”

(Isaiah 46:9-10 KJV)

We (the stiff-necked) need to be more obedient, show more gratitude and love for the gifts we have received through the Restorative, Redeeming, Sacrificial Blood of the slain, yet Risen Lamb (Son) of God, Jesus “Yeshua Messiah” Christ [Romans 8:34 | Hebrews 7:25 & 12:2].

“Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us” (Romans 8:34 KJV).

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them”

(Hebrews 7:25 KJV).

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God”

(Hebrews 12:2 KJV).

We have to still fear GOD, in order to better our understanding, enhance our attitude of gratitude, and to learn how to receive divine instruction.

FEARING GOD...IS DONE via LOVE & HIS GLORY
FEARING GOD…IS DONE via LOVE & HIS GLORY

Exodus 20:20 |Proverbs 1:7, 14:26-27 & 9:10| Ecclesiastes 3:14 & 12:13 | Isaiah 11:3 |Psalm 3:8, 19:9 & 111:10 | Matthew 10:18 |Philippians 2:12-13 |Romans 13:4 |Revelation 1|Deuteronomy 5:29 & 31:12

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction”

(Proverbs 1:7 KJV).

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell”

(Matthew 10:28 KJV).

The TWO Immutable Things to Remember: TRUST & HOPE (FAITH)

TWO Immutable Things to Remember:

God cannot possibly lie & Our soul has an anchor of Refuge within the veil of Hope…

That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” (Hebrews 6:18-20 KJV)
